Canadian medical marijuana company Aphria announced on Monday it will supply Shoppers Drug Mart with medical cannabis to be sold online. The deal is subject to Health Canada’s approval, and if they approve, Aphria-branded medical cannabis products will be available at your local Shoppers.
The Loblaw-owned drugstore chain is the largest in Canada with more than 1,200 stores, and they’ve been looking for a license to sell cannabis since last year. Earlier this month, the retail pharmacy was also on the hunt for a medical marijuana brand manager.
If approved, the deal will be one of the first of its kind ahead of the legalization of recreational cannabis by next summer.
Until the legal recreational market opens, only people with valid medical prescriptions for cannabis can buy marijuana, and it can only delivered by mail.
